Working From Home During the Pandemic

Is Sleep Consulting a Full Time Job?s (and One Downside)

My kids’ last day of school was March 13th. At the time I think we all figured that they would be out of school until spring break ended on April 20th. At the time, that seemed like an impossibly long time to have the kids at home with no place to go, friends to play with, etc. None of us were prepared for this. None of us knew what our lives would look like four weeks or even four months later. Thus began working from home during the pandemic.

On Monday, March 16th we parents sprung into action.

We opened up our dry-erase calendars that arrived in two days from Amazon and created color-coded schedules with Pinterest-inspired activities. We brought our A Game. Parents did their absolute best to make sure our kids felt safe, loved, and entertained. But many of us also had to work. The struggle was and still is, very real.

In the earliest days of the pandemic, my business came to a screeching halt. Every one was so concerned with Lysol wiping down their groceries that no one could wrap their heads around hiring a sleep consultant. Frankly, I was relieved that business slowed. The lull in business allowed me to focus on my children in a way that I knew they needed so badly. But then a couple of weeks in, I had a revelation.

Business Decisions When Working from Home During the Pandemic

I could choose to lean out and let my business momentum slow even further, or I could lean in and get that momentum back that was so incredibly strong on March 12th.

Fortunately, I chose to lean into my business and bring it back to life. I opted to network, make connections, and drive traffic to my business. I opted to prioritize both my children and my business. I’m incredibly fortunate to be able to run my business from the comfort of my home.

Benefits of Working from Home During the Pandemic

I’m able to support families while sitting in the basement working on a puzzle with my kids.

I’m able to market my business online while watching my kids dribble basketballs on the driveway. My sleep consulting business folds so nicely into my existing life, that I needed to take advantage of that blessing and keep it running!

Several months later, I can confidently say that it is 100% possible for your small business to thrive during a pandemic. When you do what you love, and you show up every day, the results speak for themselves. My sleep consulting business is thriving.

Working from Home During the Pandemic Changed My Business

With everyone stuck at home, parents are realizing that there is no better time than now to work on getting sleep to a better place.

Parents that previously worked outside the home are now really needing their children to nap and sleep on a schedule so that they can get work done at home. Everyone is better off when everyone in the family is sleeping well.
