6 Reasons To Become A Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant

Woman sitting at a table looking at her open laptop: become a certified pediatric sleep consultant

If you are considering starting a new career or side hustle as a certified pediatric sleep consultant, it’s normal to have a few doubts. It’s also difficult to know what the right thing really is. You may have a long list of questions:

  • How important is it to be certified?
  • What will I even learn by taking a course?
  • I trained my own babies to sleep so why can’t I just help others do the same?
  • Can’t I figure it out on my own?
  • Why would I spend money on a business before it even starts?

Here are six reasons to become certified that will clear up any self-doubt you may have. Just remember that you are in control of your path and this new career as a certified sleep consultant is just the beginning!

6 Reasons to Become a Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant

Making a change in life can feel scary. Discover the six reasons you should become a certified pediatric sleep consultant.

1. You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know

You may be wondering: “Is it necessary to get certified or can I just get to work?” A lot of parents have some experience with infant sleep struggles but not as much with toddler sleep habits. Before I started my business, I had coached MANY friends and friends of friends through sleep training their babies but stayed away from toddler sleep as it felt out of my wheelhouse.

Eventually, I decided to take a course and become certified and I realized that I did not know as much about sleep as I thought I did. You will learn so much invaluable information by taking a sleep consultant course. Even if you really do know a lot about infant sleep or toddler sleep, I guarantee the course will set you up for more success in becoming a certified pediatric sleep consultant.

While you could self-study and put in the effort to research, you’d likely struggle to find the time or the pathway to successfully do this in a timely manner. An online, self-paced course like the CPSM Sleep Consultant certification course will best position you for a successful career.

2. Mentorship, Community, and Support

Whenever you embark on something new, having a community to lean on, ask questions, motivate you, and inspire you is often the magic that moves you forward. When you enroll in a program, you have insider access to others who are working on the same things you are. You’ll have opportunities to collaborate, join masterminds, and learn from others in a way that you would not if you decided to do it alone.

Within the CPSM community, we have two pediatricians, two PAs, two IBCLCs, several nurses, occupational therapists, parents of special needs kids, parents of multiples, daycare owners, and more. When you join the program, you will have access to all these professionals and the freedom to ask as many questions as you wish.

Within our community, you will always have several answers to your questions. You’ll get answers from women who often have expertise in an area that varies from your own. The collaborative culture that we work VERY hard to facilitate at the Center for Pediatric Sleep Management is not one that you would be able to build on your own.

3. Continuous Education

If you’re not plugged into this field, chances are you won’t be in the know when things change. You could find yourself making outdated recommendations, or offering advice that is not in line with the AAP or other sleep or child development agencies.

If you decide to become a certified sleep consultant with CPSM, you’ll have lifetime access to the curriculum and our Facebook community. We are always expanding our curriculum and sharing current and updated best practices.

4. Learn the Workflow

Yes, you could figure these types of things out on your own. However, this will cost you time and has the potential to leave room for mistakes. You will come out of the course having a roadmap for how to support families in a way that makes sense for them and for you.

During the final assessment for your certification, you will have the opportunity to write sleep plans for two case studies, an infant and a toddler. You will have them reviewed by me and will receive feedback on what you nailed and what you missed. Upon completion of the program, you will have the bones of two sleep plans that can be used once you start taking paying clients as a certified sleep consultant.

5. Business Training

This is actually a unique aspect of the CPSM course. There are very few courses that offer business training. It’s a major source of value for our students. We are placing a VERY heavy emphasis on business building and entrepreneurship. Within the course, you won’t just learn how to sleep train babies/toddlers, but you will learn Sales, Marketing, Business Growth Strategy, and even Mindset within our program. Yes, it’s possible that you already know how to grow a successful business, but true entrepreneurs never stop learning.

We have brought in some very high-level experts in these four areas to not only teach but to inspire. At CPSM, I work hard to fill the needs within my community. I want to see my students thrive and I’m committed to making sure that you have ALL the resources necessary – right at your fingertips.

6. Investing in Yourself

Investing in yourself is one of the hardest parts for most new business owners. It’s intimidating and uncomfortable but the positive aspect of those feelings is that you will prioritize the work and you’re more committed to success. If you have no skin in the game, you have nothing to lose.

Let’s say you decide to become a certified pediatric sleep consultant without investing in yourself, it’s very likely that it won’t amount to anything. If it does, you will struggle to reach your full potential. By enrolling in a certification program, you are committing to yourself and to this new career. You are going to DO THIS and you’re far less likely to sideline it for other projects or just busy day-to-day life.

There are probably 100 more reasons to take a sleep certification course, but these six reasons should be enough to light that fire within you to follow this passion.
